Robert has over 30 years experience in technical and management roles within the telecommunications sector. He has worked for both fixed and mobile network operators, and as a consultant he has advised clients across Europe, the US and the Asia-Pacific region.
With a background in network design and engineering, he has led major projects to design, procure, build, test and launch new networks and services. As an in-depth technical specialist he has advised operators across the world on their technical strategy and architectural solutions. However, with his very broad experience across the industry, he has also worked extensively with clients on business strategy, business performance improvement, and on winning operator licences in new markets then setting up those new businesses.
Robert has carried out projects for regulators, equipment vendors, service providers and large, corporate end-users, as well as for leading operators of mobile, fixed, broadband and video networks.
Robert’s major strength is in diagnosing and solving problems, and then implementing the solutions. Some examples this work include:
- Evaluating the network sharing options open to a European mobile operator, and specifying and procuring the required network upgrades.
- Negotiating the market entry of a fibre broadband operator with the regulator and technology partners.
- Managing the architectural evolution of network and service platforms for a Scandinavian mobile operator.
- Troubleshooting the messaging services of a European operator then planning and implementing solutions to improve performance.
Throughout his career Robert has been quoted in technical and national press, has been interviewed by broadcasters and has been invited to speak at conferences.
He holds a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Bristol and is based in London, UK.
