Nick provides strategic and tactical decision support to telecoms executives within a range of contexts, including single and multi-band spectrum awards:
- Leading mobile spectrum valuations (22 projects in 15 countries), using financial modelling (DCF) as well international spectrum price benchmarking ‒ he valued spectrum packages across multiple bands between 700MHz and 26GHz
- Developing spectrum auction bid strategies (14 spectrum awards in 9 countries), including the provision of live auction support and bid advice
- Advising regulators in two markets on policy, process and pricing in relation to spectrum licence renewals and the award of incremental usage rights
An M&A specialist, Nick advised one of the parties in a £30 billion merger between a mobile operator and a fixed broadband provider. He has also advised on multibillion-dollar asset-sharing JVs between mobile operators in Asian and Western European markets, developing common consolidated financial and operational models, valuing net synergies, and facilitating negotiations on a clean-team basis.
Nick helped operators define and deliver public policy advocacy (19 engagements in 14 markets), addressing questions relating to efficient market structure and competition, telecoms sector sustainability, as well as the impact of policy on investment incentives, on retail market outcomes, and on economic growth and welfare.
